John Carter Wallace, 81, of Easley, beloved husband of Dr. Virginia Bugg Wallace, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 8, 2025.
Born in Cincinnati, OH, he was the son of the late John Truman Wallace and Delta Webster Wallace. He was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, and a member of Mensa International. John retired from GE as a mechanical engineer.
John was a dedicated member of St. Andrew Methodist Church where he played a very active role and was an outstanding husband, father and grandfather.
John's talents extended far beyond mechanical engineering. He possessed a remarkable knack for handiwork, demonstrating a particular prowess in electrical tasks that captivated those fortunate enough to witness his skills. He found joy not only in solving intricate problems but also in passing on his knowledge as a professional gunsmith and a concealed weapons permit (CWP) instructor, sharing his expertise with a spirit of camaraderie with both the Greenville Gun Club and the Belton Gun Club. John’s enthusiasm for the outdoors extended to the tranquil waters where he loved to sail, whether on serene lakes or the expansive ocean.
An avid hunter and hiker, John embraced the invigorating essence of the outdoors. Each stride was a celebration, a moment of silent reflection amidst nature's splendor. Yet, it was his thrill for adventure that truly defined him. John was a big game enthusiast whose heart resonated with the wilds of South Africa. With each hunt, he embarked on world-wide journeys that deepened his connection to the land and the pursuit of the expansive horizon, forging memories that resonated with vitality. In the quieter moments, he found solace and satisfaction in the art of golf, cherished as a proud member of Smithfield’s Country Club.
As an American history and military buff, John was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and the Civil War Round Table in Cincinnati, OH. His experiences in aviation complemented his vast zest of life, blending a love for freedom and the skies with the grounded nature of his Scottish roots. Extremely proud of his heritage, John was a steadfast custodian of Scotland traditions and stories that shaped his identity, weaving them into the fabric of familial anecdotes shared over evenings spent enjoying a fine scotch and a favorite cigar.
He held a profound admiration for the Easley City Police Department and all first responders, consistently championing their dedication and service to the community. His heart swelled with pride whenever he spoke of these heroes, embodying a deep sense of gratitude for their bravery.
In addition to his wife of 46 years, he is survived by daughters; Dr. Stephanie Weaver (William) and Dr. Jennifer McClain (Patrick); sons, John Kouns (Kathrine) and Jason Wallace (Kristen); grandchildren, Sophia Weaver, Rosalind Weaver Lim (John), Ruth Isabel Weaver, Charlie Kouns and Lydia Kouns, and brother-in-law, Tim Bugg (Terri).
A memorial service to honor John’s extraordinary life will be held on Monday, May 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM at St. Andrew Methodist Church in Easley, SC.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM at the church prior to the service.
As we remember John Carter Wallace, we celebrate a man who embraced life with open arms, engaging in rich experiences that traversed the realms of engineering, adventure, and kinship. His legacy will endure in the hearts of those who knew him, a testament to a life well-lived.
