Johnny Ray “John” Head, 92, of Central, husband to Imogene Head, passed away September 22, 2024.
Born in Central, he was the son of the late John Arthur Head and Kansie Whitmire Head. Mr. Head was a member of the Central Fire Department for forty-nine years and served as chief for forty-five of those years. He retired from the Town of Central as the Director of Public Works and was a long-time local grave contractor for many funeral homes and cemeteries. In 2005, Mr. Head was awarded the Order of the Silver Crescent by Governor Mark Sanford for his contributions to not only his local community but also throughout the entire State of South Carolina.
John is survived by his wife, Imogene Head; sons, Jimmy Head (Vicki), Wayne Head, and Joe Head (Karen). He is also survived several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and extended family members.
Mr. Head was predeceased by his first wife, Clara Head, his parents, and other extended family members.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home.
Funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be at Memory Gardens.
