Johnny Ray Watkins, I, 62, 103 Velo View Lane, died Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at his home.

Born in Cherokee, NC, a son of Evangeline Beck Chappell of Easley, and the late George Watkins, Mr. Watkins was an electrician with Roach Construction Company and was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He also served with the US Navy.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, are two sons, Johnny Ray Watkins, II, of Piedmont and James Bradley Watkins of Liberty; two daughters, Carla Marie McAlister of Easley and Valerie Kaye Hughes of Piedmont; six brothers, Harold Watkins of Texas, Kenneth Watkins, Gary Chappell, Mike Chappell, and Tony Chappell, all of Easley, and Dennis Chappell of Greenville; two sisters, Beatrice Roach of Easley and Sherry Robinson of Greenville; and eight grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday at Tow String Cemetery in Cherokee, NC.

The body is at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, Easley, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. Thursday.

The family is at the home of a daughter, Valerie Kaye Hughes, 241 Lowe Road, Piedmont, SC 29673.
