Johnny Smith, Sr.
Easley, SC
Johnny Grant Smith, Sr., 76, husband of Ina Eyvonne Harris Smith, passed away Saturday October 11, 2014 at his residence.
Born in Stanly County, NC, to the late Lee Adam and Esther Hinson Smith, Johnny enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from Oakboro High School. He served in the military for four years as a weapons mechanic and, after being honorably discharged, began work for Steadman Millers Mill as a knitting machine mechanic and later as a knitting machine technician. Mr. Smith was an avid bowler and also enjoyed golfing, fishing, reading and gardening. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, is a son, Johnny Smith, Jr. (Rhonda) of Easley; two sisters, Patsy Smith of Locust, NC and Alta Lee Gilmore of VA; and four grandchildren, Stephen Lee Smith, Samuel Adam Smith, Shawn Douglas Smith and L Cpl Micheal Logan Smith.
Memorial services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, October 17, 2014 at MJ Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery, Anderson, SC with Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Veterans Affairs Hospital of your choice at http://www.volunteer.va.gov/apps/VolunteerNow/ or to Journey Hospice, 665 Academy Street, Greenville, SC 29601.
