Joseph Daniel (J.D.) Gossett, Jr., 88, husband of Sarah Rampey Gossett, was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 after a 5 month battle with cancer. Born in Anderson County he was the son of the late Joseph Daniel and Zelpha Stancil Gossett, Sr. He was a member of the Cannon Memorial Baptist church where he served as Deacon, S.S. Superintendent and was a member of the Will Carver S.S. Class. He was a WWII veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star, the Bronze Arrowhead, the Good Conduct Medal, the EAMET Service Medal, and the American Defense Service Medal. He retired from Michelin Tire Company and was a member of Masonic Lodge 229.
In addition to his wife he is survived by sisters, Wilma Kelly and husband R.G. and Pauline LeRoy and husband Cliff, both of Central and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Lee Gossett and brothers, Raymond, Ralph, Harold and Furman Gossett.
Funeral services will be Friday at 4pm in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home with burial to follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4pm prior to the service. Flowers accepted or memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621. The family wishes to give special thanks to Cathy Cole and many other nurses at the Rainey Hospice House for their love and concern, and to Allison our social worker. The family will be at the home of Joyce and Sam Bolding, 631 Belle Shoals Road, Pickens, SC 29671.
