Joseph William Looper

Joseph William Looper, 81, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Williamsburg Hospice House in Williamsburg, VA.
Mr. Looper was a native of Oxford, MS and had been a resident of Newport News, VA for forty-five years. He was employed with WGH Radio as a chief engineer for seventeen years and then went to work with Minnesota Public Radio in St. Paul, MN for a year before returning to Virginia to work for Hampton Roads Cablevision, now known as Cox Cable. Mr. Looper attended the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in Oxford before entering the US Army where he served for two years. He enjoyed many hobbies which included flying, bench rest shooting, traveling and following the Looper Family roots.
Mr. Looper was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. James Burdine Looper and Margaret Rupert Haase Looper, sister-in-law, Alice Hinton Looper, and brothers-in-law. Joe Ed Looper, Sr., and Herman Geschwind.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Betty Jean Hinton Looper, daughter, Jean Carter Looper Ruckel and her husband, Anthony (Tony) of Williamsburg, VA; sister, Mary Mac Looper Geschwind of Richmond, VA; and nieces and nephews, Carl-Henry Geschwind of Washington, DC, William F. Geschwind and his wife, Beth, of Port A Prince Haiti, Joe Ed Looper, Jr., and his wife, Joan, Patricia Looper Hardin and her husband, Ted and Nell Looper Lundy, all of Easley, SC, Deborah Hinton-Rowlett and her husband, Reid, of Bethesda, MD, aunt, Melissa Looper of of Easley, SC, cousins, Charles B. Looper of Selma, AL, Christine Lee Looper Baker of Southwest Harbor, ME, Nancy Ann Looper Sharpe of Cambridge, England, Jane Looper Wilson of Punta Gorda, FL, Judy Looper Harrison of Greenville, SC, J.K. Lathem of Easley, SC and Vaden McMillon of Seneca, SC.
A memorial graveside service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 9, 2012 at Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
