Josie Ellen Gilstrap Black, 87, of 128 Maxton Way, wife of the late Wade Dewitt Black, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at her home.
Born in Pickens County, a daughter of the late James Benson and Ellen Brooks Gilstrap, Mrs. Black was a homemaker and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church where she belonged to the Keenagers and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.
Surviving are four sons, Mitchell L. Black, of Tucson, AZ, Jerry Wade Black and Gary J. Black, both of Six Mile and Rev. Roger E. Black of Myrtle Beach; three daughters, Connie Black Mason of Kings Mountain, NC, Donna Black Jackson of Livingston, TX, and Kim Black Burkhalter of Pelzer; two brothers, Charles Gilstrap and Don Gilstrap, both of Easley; two sisters, Louise Trotter and Doris Looper, both of Pickens; twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Black was predeceased by a son, Jacob Harold Black, by a daughter, Pamela Ann Black, and by fourteen brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Rock Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. David Gallamore and Rev. Roger Black officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The body is at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Friday and will be placed in the church at 1:00 PM Saturday
