Joy Lanelle Bethay Redman Ault passed away on January 7, 2019 after a lengthy illness. She was born in Mississippi August 20, 1936, the daughter of Wade and Willie Mae (Barber) Bethay. Joy grew up in Arkansas and later moved to Indiana.
As a young wife with two small daughters, Cynthia and Sonya, she was involved in an automobile accident where her husband, Ray Redman was killed and Joy was seriously injured. She recovered and later married Jerry Ault who moved the family from Indiana to the Florida Keys. Later Joy and her husband moved to Texas where she was a feature writer for the local newspaper, The Valley Morning Star. Upon Jerry's death, Joy moved back to Florida and then in 2008 to Central, SC. Since suffering a fall and breaking her hip in 2015, Joy had been a resident of Brookdale Assisted Living in Central.
Joy is survived by daughters, Sonya Crandall and her husband, Lee of Clemson, and Cynthia Redman of Asheville, NC; grandchildren Anastasia and Natalia Crandall, Christopher, David, Akia, and Michael Ruquet; two great grandchildren, Dominique and Cougar Ruquet; a brother, Kent Bethay; a sister, Kay Cullum; a niece; and several nephews. In addition to her parents, Joy was predeceased by two brothers, Pet and Jon Bethay.
A Memorial service will be held at 4PM, Thursday, January 24 at the Chapel of the Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, 108 Cross Creek Road, Central.
The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.
Her remains will rest next to those of Cynthia's and Sonya's father in the Elwood Cemetery, in Indiana.
