Joyce Brink Kilgoar, lovingly known as "Granny," passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on the evening of Tuesday, April 21, 2026.
Born on July 4, 1940, on Independence Street in Baltimore, Maryland, Joyce truly lived up to her Independence Day spirit. She was a longtime resident of Powdersville, South Carolina, where she built a life centered on family, laughter, and love.
She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Cecil Arthur and a beloved sister to Doris Pilkerton, Margaret Thrasher, Evelyn Rice, Jimmy Arthur, Maurice "Peck” Arthur, Helen Delores Arthur, Maybelle Ferguson, Elsie Arthur, Barbara Shrader, and Roy Arthur. She was also known as "Aunt Joyce" to many nieces and nephews who adored her.
Joyce was the proud mother of Douglas Rodney Brink, Jr., the late Ret Allan Brink, Sr., Paul Edward Brink, Marian Brink Coleman (Mike), and Tammy Brink Zimmerman (Steve). She was a devoted grandmother to Nichole Dingler, Ret Brink, Valerie Steen, Rodney Brink, Jessie Steen, Aaron Aiken, Kalee Aiken, and Ethan Brink, and she treasured her 15 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Affectionately known as the "Firecracker" of the family, Joyce had a personality that was as bold and unforgettable as her birthday. She found joy in life's simple pleasures, scratch-offs, yard sales, a good clearance deal at Wal-Mart, and keeping up with her favorite shows like Survivor and Big Brother. She never missed a chance to send a birthday card or share a story, keeping the family closely connected.
Above all, Joyce cherished her role as "Granny." From slipping money into the "magic crab" to baking Christmas cookies and treats, she created traditions and memories that will live on for generations. Her love, humor, and spirited nature will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Douglas Rodney Brink, Sr.; her second husband, Virgil Henry Kilgoar; and her son, Ret Allen Brink, Sr.
A private family memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 26th.
