Rev. J.T. Dickerson, Sr.

Rev. John Theodore "J.T." Dickerson, Sr., 89, of 212 Fairfax Road, died Thursday, November 5, 2009, at Palmetto Health Baptist Easley.
Born in Anderson County, SC, he was a son of the late Theodore Watson and Margaret Tinsley Dickerson. He began his Christian walk while attending Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church of Easley, and later was ordained to the Baptist Ministry there in March, 1948. Rev. Dickerson was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII as an Electrician's Mate - Second Class. He was a 1949 graduate of Furman University and later obtained a Masters Degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX. Rev. Dickerson and his wife were missionaries in Alaska from 1953-1995. He served a short ministry at Unity Baptist Church in Simpsonville, SC, and Geneva Baptist Chapel in Geneva, NY. He was a member of the Pickens Rotary Club, the Upstate 49ers (1949 graduates of Furman University), and First Baptist Church, Easley, where he belonged to the Coley Cleveland Sunday School Class.
Surviving are his wife, Alvilda Craft Dickerson of the home; two sons, John T. Dickerson, Jr. and wife Holly Kristiansen of Anchorage, AK, Bryan T. Dickerson and wife Shari Sirkin of Portland, OR; two daughters, Deborah Lynn Dickerson of Easley, Alice Amelia Savinova and husband Alexander of Wasilla, AK; a brother, James W. Dickerson and wife Ruth, of Easley; a sister, Edna Hamlin of Greenville; a sister-in-law, Margarette Dickerson of Easley; and four grandchildren, Carey Seward, Kyle Dickerson-Lockwood, Avery Kristiansen, and Reid Kristiansen. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Randolph Dickerson; and a brother-in-law, R.V. Hamlin.
Funeral services will be 3:30 PM Sunday at First Baptist Church, Easley, with Rev. Dr. John Adams officiating. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The body is at Robinson Funeral Home - Downtown and will be placed in the church at 1:30 PM Sunday, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until 3:30 PM in the church Narthex, prior to the service.
The family is at the residence.
