Juanita Marie Evans Gibbs

July 30, 1929 — January 15, 2017

Juanita Marie Evans Gibbs, 87, of Easley, wife to the late Oscar Thomas Gibbs, Jr., passed away peacefully on January 15, 2017 at her residence.

She was born in Maggie Valley, NC to the late Charles Robert Evans and Frances Eliza Jane Setzer Evans.

Juanita was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Greenville for over 50 years and she honored her faith by serving in many facets of the ministry for her church.

She graduated from Waynesville Township High School and from Memorial Mission Nursing School in Asheville, NC, as a Registered Nurse. She spoke many times of feeling honored to have studied under Dr. Nelson Bell, father of Ruth Bell Graham. Her nursing career began at Memorial Mission Hospital, continued at Greenville General Hospital in Greenville, SC, and she retired from Baptist Easley Hospital in Easley, SC.

In addition to lovingly rearing her 5 children, she was a superior cook, seamstress and gardener. She cared for all the farm's animals and her "doctoring" of those animals brought many back to life. She was the backbone and stability of our family while helping our father grow and have success in his businesses.

She was always kind and gracious to everyone she met. She was quick to offer food and drink to anyone who came to the house. Strangers always left her table as friends. She was full of life, loved to laugh, and loved a challenge. She learned to drive in her mid 30's and to fly ultralight airplanes after she retired.

Left to cherish her precious memory are her children, Sandra Joan Faigle (Dan), John Darrell Gibbs (Wendy), Richard Harold Gibbs (Renae), Sarah Elizabeth Santos (Santiago), Joseph Thomas Gibbs (Denise) and David Lee Henson, whom she treated like a son, along with her beloved grandchildren, Amy, Alicia, Aundrea, Julie, Ashley, John, Rikki, Ruth, Ruby, Mandy, Sandy, Symatha and Leigh, several great-grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. She considered Margaret Stringer her life-long friend and part of our family.

In addition to her parents and loving husband of 60 years, Juanita was preceded in death by her sisters, Molly, Georgia, Willamore, Maggie, Kate and Charlie. She was the last surviving member of her family.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 19th at 2:00 PM at Robinson Funeral Home - Powdersville Road, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley with Rev. Dr. Jimmy Rose, Veteran Missionary Margaret Stringer, and Rev. Darrell Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens in Easley.
