ManessEasleyOn the afternoon of Friday, February 5, 2016 Juanita Laura Johnson Maness passed away peacefully of natural causes, two days before her 82nd birthday.Juanita was born in Whitmire, SC, to the late Curtis and Pearl Collingsworth Johnson. She attended Dobbins-Bennett High School in Kingsport, TN, where she met the love of her life, Hiram "Sonny" F. Maness, Jr. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother of five children, Juanita also worked outside the home as a teaching assistant, in the neonatal unit of a hospital, for G.E. Credit Corporation, and for Westclox.Juanita's hobbies included making clothes for her children and grandchildren, designing and making quilts, was even known by many as the "plant lady" for her love of the outdoors and flowers. She also loved to cook, and her signature biscuits and gravy earned her a fame that spans generations.Juanita and Sonny remained married until his death in 2004. She was also preceded in death by two siblings, David Johnson and Wanda Goins.Surviving are a son, Hiram "Butch" F. Maness III (Pam Schafer) of Myrtle Beach; four daughters, Cynthia Lynn Bollinger (Bruce) of Temple, TX, Mary Ann Gaston (Grady) of Easley, Doris Kay McLeod (Bill) of Punta Gorda, FL, and Laura J. Brown (Lankford) of Roanoke, AL; a brother, Curtis Johnson (Debbie) of Kingsport, TN; a sister, Mary Ruth McFadden (Guy) of Asheville, NC; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 13, 2016 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown.The family will receive friends from noon until 1:45 PM Saturday at the funeral home, prior to the service.In lieu of flowers, her family request that donations be made in her memory to Meals on Wheels of Pickens County, P.O. Box 184, Easley, SC 29641, United Christian Ministries, 303 Dacusville Highway, Easley, SC 29640, or to Lutheran Hospice, 429 North Main Street, Greenville, SC 29601.  Condolences may be expressed online at www.robinsonfuneralhomes.com or in person at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, which is assisting the family.
