Julia Baskin Wood, formerly of Clemson, died Friday, February 05, 2010.
Born in Lowndesville, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Gamble and Edna Smith Baskin. She graduated from Winthrop College receiving a BS degree and also received a MS degree from the University of Tennessee. She did additional study in Interior design at Peabody College, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro and The Penland School of Crafts. She was a dedicated member of Delta Kappa Gamma and served in the organization at all levels of the chapter from the state level to the regional and to the international scene. She has taught at the high school and college levels and worked with the Clemson Cooperative Extension Service. She has also received numerous awards for her civic activities. Julia retired in 1980 and married Ed Wood in 1982 and acquired a new family of a daughter and her family. Together she and Ed traveled extensively

In addition to her parents, Julia was predeceased by her husband Edwin Franklin Wood, sister, Mildred Baskin Kirby, brothers, Gamble Walker Baskin, Albert Pressley Baskin, Carroll Kermit Baskin and John Edward Baskin.

She is survived by 8 nieces and nephews, 8 great nieces and nephews and 14 great great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a step-daughter, Anne W. Melson and her husband Stuart and 5 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren.

Memorial services will be conducted at Fort Hill Presbyterian Church in Clemson at 11am Monday. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Fort Hill Presbyterian Church, 399 College Ave., Clemson, SC 29631 or the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Alpha State.
