Almond Grover "Junior" Gantt, Jr., 81, of 115-D Deerfield Court, formerly of Reece Mill Road, Pickens, passed away Monday, September 27, 2010, at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late Almond Grover Gantt, Sr., and the late Leila O'Shields Gantt, Mr. Gantt retired as owner/operator of Gantt's Trucking Company in Pickens and was a member of Secona Baptist Church.

Junior lived most of his life in Pickens County and never met a stranger and was always doing something for someone else.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred Sheriff Gantt of the home; a son, Harvey L. Gantt (Crystal) of Charlotte, NC; two daughters, Donna Albertson (Vernell) and Gail McCall, all of Easley; two step-sons, James H. Crawford, Jr. (Carrie) of Marietta, GA and Douglas N. Crawford (Julie) of Williamston; five grandchildren, Anna A. Payne (Hal), Chad LaMance (Tia), Lindsay LaMance (fiance Kyle Stewart), Zachary Gantt and Sara Gantt; and five great-grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth, Megan Pearl and Lea Brooke Payne, Jordan Meekins and Braxton LaMance; five step-grandchildren, Ryan, Shannon and Kelly Crawford, and Matthew and Andrew Crawford; and two step-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gantt was predeceased by his first wife, Sara Duncan Gantt and by two brothers, Robert Gantt and Bruce Gantt.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown with Rev. Jeff Whaley officiating. Entombment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Baptist Easley Hospital and also caregivers, Fred O'Shields, Bennie Morgan, Teresa Hicks, Patty Harris and Jamie Black for their love, support and care given to Daddy during his years of declining health.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to the Building Fund of Secona Baptist Church, 234 Secona Road; Pickens, SC 29671.

The family is at the home of Donna and Vernell Albertson, 100 Wentworth Court, Easley, SC 29642.
