PattersonClemson, SCVelma Kathleen Howell Patterson, 89, of Clemson, wife of Maxcy Brooks Patterson died Thursday, January 7, 2016 at home.Born in Spartanburg County, she was a daughter of the late Edgar V. and Bertice Mae Johnson Howell. She was a 1944 gradute of Spartanburg High School and 1948 graduate of Winthrop College. She taught school in the Woodruff District #4 School System and retired in 1986. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Clemson and was active in the ESL program at the church.Surviving in addition to her husband are daughters, Susan Putnam of Laurens, Karen McAlister of Clemson and Julie (Don) Bowie of Woodruff; grandchildren, Brooks (Deron) Brown, Amanda Stover, Kristopher Bowie and Angela (Randy) Thompson; and 6 great-grandchildren.In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kathy James; and two great-grandchildren.A private entombment service will be held at Memory Gardens in Clemson.Memorial services will be 2 PM, Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at First Baptist Church, Clemson.
