Kathryn Abernathy Stapleton, 82, passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. Surviving are her children, Jane Abernathy Ovenden of Seabrook Island, SC and David Abernathy of Asheville, NC, and her four grandchildren, James Ovenden, Jr., William Ovenden, Colin Abernathy, and Campbell Abernathy.

Born May 4, 1934, in Hiddenite, NC, she was the daughter of Janie Madge Millsaps and Yates Millsaps. She married A. Ray Abernathy in 1955 and lived much of her adult life in Clemson, SC. Widowed in 1997; she married William Don Stapleton of Charlotte in 2000.

A service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, July 16 at Woodland Cemetery in Clemson, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the A. Ray Abernathy Fellowship Endowment, Clemson Fund, P.O. Box 1889, Clemson, SC, 29633.
