Robert Kenneth Holcombe, 64, of 220 Sherwood Rd., husband of Dell Marie Payne Holcombe, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014 at his home following a year-long battle with melanoma cancer.

Born February 13, 1949 in Pelzer, he was a son of the late Charles Henry Holcombe, Jr. and the late Lona Parris Holcombe. Mr. Holcombe was a proud member of the US Army, having served in Aschaffenburg, Germany, and Desert Shield/Desert Storm with the 457th Chemical Battalion. He served as a field wireman and communications chief with several reserve units throughout his career and retired as a Master Sergeant (E8) in February 2009. Mr. Holcombe had been employed with Winn Dixie, Lucas Sagem, and American Services. He was a member of the C.W. Lyle Memorial Sunday School Class and an active Deacon at Jones Ave. Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife of 43 years, he is survived by his son, Mark Timothy Holcombe; daughter, Heather Marie Johnson (Joey); sisters, Phyllis Foster (Dan) and Lorraine Breazeale (Michael); and a most precious granddaughter, Cosette Morgan McCullough who lovingly called him "Poppy"; and grandson, Kevin Lee Johnson (Ashtin).

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Jones Ave. Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in The Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum at Robinson Memorial Gardens with full military honors.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:45 PM Sunday prior to the service at the church.

Honorary escorts will be the C.W. Lyle Memorial Sunday School Class and Deacons of the church.

The family is at the home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Jones Ave Baptist Church, 614 Ross Ave., Easley, SC 29640.
