Arvel Kendall King, 89, of 410 West King Street, husband of Wylene Galloway King, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Baptist Easley Hospital.

Born March 9, 1922 in Pickens County, he was a son of the late Arvel Hillman "Mose" and Esther Hendrix King. He attended Easley High School and retired from Alice Manufacturing Company after forty-seven years of employment. Mr. King also worked for the Post Office for thirteen years. Mr. King was a member of United Wesleyan Church where he was a former Trustee. He was a US Army Veteran, having served in WW II in the 95th Infantry, 379 Regiment, Company B. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and the Purple Heart.

In addition to his wife of sixty-eight years, he is survived by his daughter, Rosemary Thomas (Bruce) of Columbia; sons, Stan King (Gail), Phil King (Gail) and Hendrix King (Janice), all of Easley; a daughter-in-law, Harriett King of Easley; sisters, Virginia Breazeale and Sarah Masters, both of Easley; grandchildren, Melinda and David Savage, Dr. Charles P. and Wendy King, Mandy and Patrick Norris, Dobson King, McClure and Mackenzie King, Brian and Hileri Mercier, Ginger and Brett Cash, McCreight and Sarah Kathryn King, McClain King, Russell and Tammy King, Meredith and Karl Jarlebrink and John and Kristian King; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Kendall Douglas King; a brother, Ray King; and a sister, Mabel King.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Saturday in the Chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, Easley with the Reverends Tim Jones, Lawrence Keever, and Donnie Massingill officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park with Military Honors.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 1:45 PM Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the funeral home, prior to the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to United Wesleyan Church Building Fund, 738 Rice Road, Easley, SC 29640.

The family is at the home.
