Kenneth Alton Hancock

December 25, 1945 — November 8, 2015

Kenneth Alton Hancock born December 25, 1945, known as the Christmas Baby, went to be with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior Sunday November 8, 2015.

Born in Spartanburg County, he was the son of the late James Alton Hancock and Evelyn Katherine Chandler Hancock.

Mr. Hancock graduated Parker High School in 1964. He attended Cecil's Business College, worked with State Capital and Liberty Life Insurance Company. He retired from Belk in the Haywood Mall after 21 years of service as a salesman in Men's Clothing. He also was a former youth volunteer for Shriners Hospital and was active in youth politics for Senator Ernest Hollings in 1968, helped spearhead the first program for Fibromyalgia in Greenville, active in Concerned Citizens for Animals in education raising money for Bark in the Park and a pet ministry in several nursing homes. He was a long standing member of Harmony Baptist Church for 18 years where he was a Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Usher, Junior Boys and Girls Teacher, Adult Class Teacher and a Layman Speaker, until his poor health.

He had a hunger to spread the word of God to everyone he met.

Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Barbara Hayes Hancock; brother, James "Mickey" Hancock; nephew, James Michael Hancock, Jr.; a special God given son, James "Jimmy" Smith; special friend/ "sister"; Betty Way; and his best buddy, George Davis III. Also surviving are an adopted grandson, John Collier (Marla); nieces, Hannah Taylor, Debra Hartsgrove, Brittney Kirkland, and Mary Kunezel; nephew, Austin Hall, in his wife's family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second "Mama", Jean Dacus.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the exceptional care and friendship to Maggie Reid, The Ballew family and special canine, Kylie.

A service to celebrate Mr. Hancock's life will be held on Wednesday November 11, 2015 at 12:45 PM in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Powdersville Road, with burial to follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens in Easley.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM at the funeral home.

Due to Mr. Hancock's love and dedication for abandoned animals, memorials may be made to Concerned Citizens for Animals, 3627 Fork Shoals Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680.

The family will be at the home.
