Kenneth Notley Vickery, 89, of 231 Riggs Drive, died Saturday, October 14, 2006 at home. A resident of Clemson since graduating from Clemson College in 1938, he was a son of the late Isham Parker and Nina Massey Vickery of Hartwell, Georgia. Upon graduation, he began work in the Registrar's office of the College. He was an officer in the Army on active duty during the period 1941-1946. He continued in the Army Reserves and retired as a Colonel after 28 years of service. After World War II, he returned to Clemson and served as Director of Admissions and Registrar. He retired in 1982 as Dean of Admissions and Registration and Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs. He served eight years as an officer in the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers including President from 1971 1972. He served on the Athletics Council for many years, including 11 years as Chairman and NCAA representative. He also served a term as President of the Atlantic Coast Conference. In 1977, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Clemson University Alumni Association. He also served as a member of the Alumni National Council. In 2005, he was inducted into the Clemson University Athletics Hall of Fame.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Clemson, served as a deacon and Chairman of the Board and was named a Life Deacon in 2002. He also served as Chairman of the Building Committee for the construction of the present sanctuary. He served many years as a member of the Anderson College Board of Trustees. He was a former President of the Clemson Fellowship Club and a member of the Clemson Rotary Club.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Evelyn Lancaster Vickery of the home, a daughter Carolyn Cloaninger and her husband Robert Lee Cloaninger of Greenville and a son Robert Lancaster Vickery and his wife, Cile Copeland Vickery of Powdersville; Grandchildren, Amy C. Bonnette and husband, J. Michael Bonnette of Anderson, Matthew Lee Cloaninger of Charleston, Carrie Copeland Vickery of Washington, D.C. and Elizabeth Ann Vickery of Powdersville. He is also survived by brother Maurice L. Vickery of Hartwell, Georgia and predeceased by brother Herbert M. Vickery of Hartwell, Georgia.

Memorial services will be Tuesday at 11am at First Baptist Church of Clemson with the Clemson Rotary Club serving as honorary pallbearers.. The body is at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home where the family will receive friends on Monday from 6-8pm.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Clemson, The Clemson University Foundation, or to the charity of one's choice.
