Knox Livingston Haynsworth, Jr., age 91, died Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

Born January 10, 1934, in Greenville, Mr. Haynsworth was the son of the late Knox Livingston and Elizabeth Goldsmith Haynsworth. He graduated from Greenville High School, the University of South Carolina, and University of South Carolina School of Law, where he received his law degree. Mr. Haynsworth was a long standing member of Christ Church Episcopal.

Mr. Haynsworth began his legal career with the Haynsworth firm in Greenville, founded by his grandfather Harry J. Haynsworth. In 1972, he became a founding partner of Haynsworth, Baldwin, Johnson, and Greaves, which became one of the premier labor law firms in the southeast. His firm later merged with Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, and Smoak. Mr. Haynsworth was a permanent member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference, and Past President of both the Greenville County Bar and the South Carolina Bar. His memberships included the Greenville Country Club, Poinsett Club, and the Pawley’s Island Yacht Club. Also, Mr. Haynsworth was the longest serving member of the Carolina Investment Club. He served on the SC Wildlife Commission for many years and in 2004 received the Order of the Palmetto, the highest civilian honor awarded by the governor of South Carolina. In memory of his late son, Clement, in 2002 Mr. and Mrs. Haynsworth established Clement’s Kindness Fund for the Children at the Community Foundation of Greenville, a charity to assist children being treated for pediatric cancer and other serious blood disorders. Mr. Haynsworth worked tirelessly to raise money to benefit Clement’s Kindness. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter who loved and cherished his family and friends above all else.

Surviving are his beloved wife of sixty-four years, Priscilla Ann Barrett Haynsworth; a son, Knox L. Haynsworth III (Suzy) of Greenville; a daughter, Priscilla H. Avery (Peter), of Athol, Massachusetts; granddaughters, AnneMarie Haynsworth Odom (Trey), Julie Avery, and Katie Avery; a grandson, Knox L. Haynsworth IV (Caroline) and four great-grandchildren, Graham Odom, Worth Odom, Bishop Odom, and Priscilla Haynsworth.

Mr. Haynsworth was predeceased by a son, Clement Furman Haynsworth III; and a sister, Elizabeth Haynsworth White.

Funeral services will be Monday, May 12th at 2:30p.m. at Christ Church Episcopal. The family will receive friends in the McKissick Refectory at the church immediately following the service.
