Luther Stephen Cash, 85, of Clemson, SC, husband to Anne Shofner Cash, passed away June 25, 2026.
Born in Knoxville, TN, he was the son of the late Luther Shade Cash and Freda Beach Cash. He served his country in the United States Army. Steve received his B.S. in Business and Accounting from the University of Tennessee, J.D. degree from the University of Tennessee School of Law, and a L.L.M. in Law and Taxation from the Washington University School of Law. He practiced tax law in Knoxville, TN at Frantz, McConnell & Seymour, where he was highly respected. Art Seymour, Jr. once said they “didn’t need a law library when Steve was there, they just asked him.” On June 19th, 2015 the Tennessee Bar Association honored Steve as a senior counselor for his 50 years of practice.
Steve moved on to Clemson University, where he taught in the Accountancy Department. He co-authored and published numerous legal and accounting articles while at Clemson. Steve was awarded Professor Emeritus status in the Accountancy Department.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Cash; daughter, Maria Tyler and husband Corey; grandchildren, Jackson Tyler and Shelby Tyler; sister, Patti Fain; niece, Angela Fain.
Steve was predeceased by his parents and brother, Jack Cash.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
