Lamar Duke McCleskey, Jr., 99 of Clemson, SC passed away Sunday evening, July 19, 2020. Duke was a WWII Veteran, a retired Chief Warrant Officer in the US Navy where he served over 20 years. He was born in Atlanta, Ga to the late Lamar Duke, Sr. and Ruby Mae McCleskey. He was a devoted husband to Doris Robbins McCleskey for 76 years.
Through the years Duke and Doris were members of St. Matthews Methodist Church in Greenville, SC and Asbury United Methodist Church in Greeneville, Tennessee. Duke was a Sunday School teacher at both churches.
In addition to his parents he is predeceased by a brother, Albert McCleskey; and a son in law, Jim Carey.
Surviving are his wife Doris; two sons, Franklin Duke McCleskey and wife Nina of Winter Park, Fl., Robert Gene McCleskey and wife Sandra Pratt Finley McCleskey of Greenville, two daughters, Marsha Carey of Clemson and Barbara Boyce and husband John of Sanibel FL; 8 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Duke and his wife lived at the Clemson Downs since 2003 and recently moved to Clemson Heritage Senior Solutions.
Duke was loved by all and will be deeply missed. He will be laid to rest at Old Stone Church Cemetery, Clemson. The family will have a private service of remembrance at a later date.
