Lawrence Frierson (Larry) Atkinson died on Dec. 1 in Clemson.
He was born on Aug. 25, 1946, in Anderson to Aldrich and Catherine Dubose Atkinson, and lived almost all of his life in Clemson. He retired from Duke Energy after a long and fulfilling career, primarily at Oconee Nuclear Station. Larry loved life, history, Spitoono, the RPAA, reading, music, the Esso Club, and Clemson football. He was always genuine and incredibly generous. He brought laughter and great stories to everyone he met, and he never met a stranger
He leaves behind his beloved partner and best friend, Jeanne Briggs of Clemson, his son Robert A. Atkinson from Seneca, Jeanne's daughter Rachel V. Briggs from Chapel Hill, two brothers, Joseph j. Atkinson (Sandy) from Seneca, and Aldrich A. Atkinson, Jr. (Sandy) from Panama City, FL, and 2 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Becky and Cathy Atkinson.
A celebration of Larry's life will be held in early 2018. Memorials may be made to the Southern Poverty Law Center, local Humane Society, or the charity of your choice.
