GySgt. Larry Derryl Jones, USMC (Ret.), 64, of Greenville Highway, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020.
Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Furman Lewis Jones and Helen Nicholson Jones.
GySgt. Jones was retired from the USMC where he proudly served his country for 20 years. Following retirement, he worked in transportation and logistics, his specialty in the Marine Corp. He enjoyed being a mechanic, playing pool, cooking, and grilling.
Surviving are his wife of 10 years, Iris Smith Jones; his children, Thomas Jones (Heather) of Duncan, Danielle Jones of Simpsonville and Eric Smith of Darmstadt, Germany; grandchildren, Daimon Jones, J'sean Clement, Aria Williams, and Caiden Moton; and brothers, Bobby Jones of Belton, Terry Jones of Anderson, Cadillac Jones of Greenville, and David Jones of Greenville.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Leisha Shealy; and brothers, Lewis Jones and Dan Jones.
Graveside services will be 3:00 PM January 4, 2021 at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson with full military honors. In order to honor Larry Jones and to care for one another, the family asks to please make sure to wear a mask during the funeral and to keep distance from one another. Condolences, words of encouragement or air hugs are appreciated from a distance.
Because the veteran's cemetery is burying so many honorable veterans who proudly served their country, GYSGT Jones will lie in state at Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown from Monday, December 14, 2020 until Friday, December 19, 2020, 9:00 AM until 4:30 PM daily.
