Larry Garland Rampey, age 71 of Blythewood, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2024 after a 14-month battle with cancer. Born on January 16, 1953 to Ralph and Eloise Rampey, Larry grew up in Central, SC and became a lifelong Clemson Tiger fan while attending the football games with his Aunt Bobbie starting in 1963. After graduating from Daniel High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Following his honorable discharge, Larry began a long and successful career in construction, using his skill on projects ranging from private homes, to multi-family apartment communities, and commercial buildings.
After his retirement in 2017, Larry remained active, using his remarkable skills to assist his friends and family. He earned a reputation for being able to fix anything, except a rainy day. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his friends at Columbia Country Club as well as his beloved neighbors Mrs. Fraiser, Dave (deceased) and Dale Wagner. Over the past year, Larry especially enjoyed restoring his 1965 Ford F-100 truck, a treasured vehicle that once belonged to Mr. Wagner.
Larry had a determined spirit and was deeply committed to using his talents and heartfelt compassion to support those around him. He loved his wife and family with all his heart and made sure to tell them often. To his wife and daughter Morgan, he was nothing short of extraordinary – they are sure he hung the moon.
In addition to his wife of 32 years, Carrie Lee Rampey, Larry is survived by his daughter Morgan Nicole Rampey of Greenville; his daughter Jennifer Rampey of Taylorsville, NC; his brother Alan Rampey (Jackie) of Pickens; and his sister Janet Brothers of Murrells Inlet. In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by his brother-in-law Stan Brothers and his Aunt Bobbie Head.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 for the immediate family, at 1:00 pm at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Central, SC.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider a donation to the American Cancer Society’s Hope Lodge. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, providing an opportunity for friends and family to come together and share their cherished memories of Larry.
