Laura Bracken Kilby Clements, 94, passed away at her home on Wednesday, April 4, 2018.
She was born in Liberty, SC and was the ninth of ten children of the late A.T. and Frederica McCall Bracken. She grew up in Liberty and graduated from Liberty High School in 1942 and lived in Pickens and Oconee Counties her entire life.
Mrs. Clements was married to the late James Carl Kilby for 29 years and to the late Harry Eugene Clements, Sr. for 16 years. She was a member of Utica Baptist Church and a former member of Flat Rock Baptist Church in Liberty. Throughout her younger years she taught numerous Sunday School Classes, Baptist Young Women, sang in the choir and served out her faith in Jesus Christ in many ways.
Mrs. Laura was a homemaker, a terrific mom and Maw Maw but also held numerous jobs outside the home over the years. Those jobs ranged from a dental assistant before she married, a cashier with Bilo, and an office assistant with Anderson Auto Parts in Seneca and Liberty. The job that gave her the most satisfaction was being a care giver after becoming certified at Tri County Tec at the age of 64. She was a private sitter for several ladies into her late seventies.
She is survived by her daughters, Diane (Eric) Martin and Susan Kilby; son, Byron (Deniza) Kilby all of Seneca; step children, Gene (Mae) Clements, Ray (Vivian) Clements of Black Mountain, NC, Brenda (Doug) Beachboard of Swannanoa, NC, and Lee (Pam) Clements of Liberty; a great niece who was as close as a daughter, Kathy Ross; grandchildren, Shelli (Jim) Burch, Allison (Alex) Konareski, Jamie Martin, Zeke (Lisa) Seigler, Stephenie (Adrian) Patterson, Lewis Hammond, Coy Kilby, Carl (Elizabeth) Chaney, Nathan (Meredith) Clements, Nolan (Jessica) Clements, Brandon (Kristi) Clements, and Hannah Clements; 17 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Kilby Seigler; two great grandchildren, Zoe Seigler and Kaden Martin; brothers, Alvin, Jack, Cecil and Ray Bracken; and sisters, Vera Kelly, Meda Tinsley, Leva Tinsley, Ruby Stokes and Myrtle Greer.
Funeral services will be 3 PM, Sunday in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central with burial to follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Easley.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:50 PM prior to the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
