Laura Martin Newman Stevenson of The Downs in Clemson, SC and formerly of 232 Pendleton Road, Clemson passed away February 25, 2014 at age 98.
She was born in Anderson, SC on July 1st, 1915 to Fred Furman and Ona Mears Martin of Pendleton, SC. She graduated from Lander College and Clemson University. She was a retired teacher from Morrison Elementary and taught school 30 years. She was a member of Pendleton United Methodist Church.
She was first married to Burrell Franklin Newman of McBee, SC, who was killed while flying a B-17 Bomber over Germany in WWII. She later married Brownie Stevenson of Clemson.
She is survived by two sons; Leon Boyd Newman (Linda) of Sunset, SC and Quincy B. Newman of Clemson, SC; 7 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 3 PM, Sunday at Old Stone Church Cemetery, Clemson, SC.
