Lauretta Irene Park, was born October 12, 1934, in Wauseon Ohio. She was the second of two children born to Clair and Helen Younkman. She married Richard Park on June 7, 1952. They had five children, after which at the age of 28, Lauretta decided to take a college course. This decision led to a BA degree from Muskingum University and a Ph.D. in physiological psychology from Florida State University. After graduate school, Lauretta had a distinguished career teaching at Clemson University for 32 years and retired in 2004.
Lauretta was an outgoing, gregarious woman who enjoyed travel, shopping, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and especially spending time with her family, friends, and students. She had a great sense of humor, and loved music. Lauretta always met everyone with a smile and would inevitably strike up a conversation that sometimes led to lifelong relationships. It must be noted that she had a special, lasting relationship with Dr. W.D. Gentry, her family doctor.
Lauretta will be dearly missed. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 48 years, Richard Park and adored son William Park. Living to cherish her memory are children Alan (Sari), Tammy Landry (Eddie), Terry Rintoul (David), K.C. (Elaine) and "Alan the brother"; grandchildren Joey(Ester), Jen, Jonathan (McKenzie), Alisha(Levi), David (Geraldine), Joshua, Lauren (Cory), Alex (Emily), Sean, and Kimberly; and great grandchildren Edric, Evey, Jonathan, Naomi, Joseph, Job, Lucy, Andrew, Addie, Katherine, Lydia, and Logan.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on Saturday, October 30 at 1:00 PM at the Duckett- Robinson Funeral Home in Central, SC. Scroll to the video player below to view the service. In lieu of flowers Lauretta requested donations to a Kidney Cancer Research Foundation, Hospice, A Heart Research Foundation, or any charity they wish.
