Lawrence P. De Vries

Lawrence Peter De Vries, 89, of Clemson Downs, passed away at Greenville Memorial Hospital on March 7, 2012. A graveside service will be held at a later date, at Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.
Mr. DeVries was born March 1, 1923 in Midland Park, NJ the son of Albert Otto De Vries and Elizabeth Reitsma DeVries. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps. During World War II, he flew 36 B-29 missions over Japan in the 498th Bomb Group. After the war, he was a flight engineer for Eastern Air Lines for many years. He then worked in the convenience store industry, in operations management and then as Real Estate Manager for 7-Eleven Stores, and retired from Krauszers Food Stores where he was the Real Estate Manager.
He enjoyed flying a private plane as a younger man, and was an avid woodworker.
Mr. DeVries is survived by a daughter Laurie Cushing (Ken) of Salem, SC; a son Larry DeVries of Shamong, NJ; a brother Albert; two sisters Bette Kishbaugh (Elwood) and Amelia Jonkers (John); four grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. DeVries was predeceased by his wife of 55 years Corinne Snyder DeVries, and a brother Otto DeVries.
