LEAH PETTIT RANKIN - Liberty

Leah Rankin, wife of Thomas C. Rankin of Liberty Highway, Anderson County died Friday, March 9 at the Hospice House of Anderson. She was the daughter of the late Emma Baldwin and John Fuller Pettit.

Born in Anderson County April 1, 1924, she graduated from Liberty High School and Draughons Business College. She retired from Crane Chevrolet-Oldsmobile and Rushton Insurance Agency in Easley, SC. She was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church in Liberty and the Ladies Auxiliary of Walker-McElmoyle Fire Department.

In addition to her husband of over sixty years, she is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Debbie and Jim Stafford of Pendleton and Nancy and Billy Ewing of Anderson; grandchildren Chuck Sears and wife Carolyn, Greenville; Jody Sears and wife Susan, Anderson; Lori Sloan and husband Michael, Pendleton; and L. Cpl. Tyler Williams, USMC, Fallujah, Iraq. Great-grandchildren are Haden, Savannah, Sarah and Matthew Sears and Reagan Sloan. Also surviving are sisters Lela Goetz of Whitehall, MD, Jonnie Niemeyer of Mt. Airy, MD, Myra Winchester of Greenville; brothers Paul and Coke Pettit of Liberty. She is also survived by her numerous, much-loved nieces and nephews and their families. Mrs. Rankin was preceded in death by granddaughter Courtney Ellen Williams, son-in-law David Sears; sister Bonnie Carter and brothers Quentin and Spurgeon Pettit.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday at 2pm in the chapel of Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central with interment to follow at Slabtown Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5-7pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621 or to Flat Rock Baptist Church Building Fund, 115 Slab Bridge Road, Liberty, SC 29657.
