Mr. Leland Dobson, 95, of Central, widower of Martha Sue Wardlaw Dobson, passed peacefully at his home on January 9, 2024, holding his granddaughter’s hand and his Bible. The family is grateful to the many people with AnMed Medical Center and Hospice of the Upstate that cared for him with kindness during his final days before he met his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Born in Central, he was the son of the late Homer Dewey Dobson, Sr., and Rosa Elsie DeFoor Dobson. Mr. Dobson served his country faithfully during World War II in the United States Navy. After his military service, Mr. Dobson had a forty-seven-year career at Milliken. He was a longtime member of Pendleton First Baptist Church, where he cherished his friends in the Combined Joy Sunday School Class. Mr. Dobson’s greatest joys were spending time with his family and farming; he will be fondly remembered for enjoying all manner of desserts and sharing a gentle smile with all he encountered.
He is survived by his son, Pastor Michael K. Dobson and daughter-in-law Gail Maxey Dobson of Central; granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Dobson and her spouse Ernest Albert Lyerly, Jr., of Lexington; and sisters, Ethel Dobson Martin of Greenville and Barbara Dobson McAlister of Clemson.
Mr. Dobson was predeceased by his parents; brothers, H.D. “Bud” Dobson, Jr., Kenneth DeFoor Dobson, Henry Dobson, Sr., and Olin Eugene Dobson; sisters, Christine Dobson McAlister and Florence Dobson Craig; and his wife.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 12, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Pendleton First Baptist Church, 351 S. Broad Street, Pendleton, SC 29670.
Funeral service celebration of Mr. Dobson’s life will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church. Burial with Navy funeral honors will be at Memory Gardens, Central, SC.
Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home is assisting the Dobson family.
