Leo Finley, 85 of 149 Mossie Smith Rd., husband of LaMerel McCollum Finley, passed away Monday, April 25, 2011 at McCall Hospice House.

Born October 4, 1925 in Anderson County, he was a son of the late Jay and Essie Lockaby Finley. He was an US Army veteran serving in WWII and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, where he received the Purple Heart. He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and he retired from Gaylord Container Corp.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his son, Daniel Finley (Elaine) of Greer; and sister, Shirley Landreth of Greenville. He was affectionately known as beloved "Papa Leo" to granddaughters, Jessica Finley State, and Catherine Danielle Finley both of Greer, and great-grandsons Carter State and Kingston Finley.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Cleo Reid, Lillie Merritt, and Mary Gambrell; brothers, Elton Finley, and William Finley.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Thursday, April 28, 2011 at Rock Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. David Gallamore officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park with Military Honors.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3:00 PM at the church, prior to the service.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Rock Springs Baptist Church, 201 Rock Springs Church Rd., Easley, SC 29642 or Open Arms Hospice, 1836 West Georgia Rd., Simpsonville, SC 29680.

The family is at the home.
