Rev. Lester Dewitt Blackston, 92, husband of the late Ruby Smith Blackston, passed away Monday, May 30, 2011 at Brian Center, Brevard, NC.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late George Washington and Margaret Galloway Blackston, Mr. Blackston was a retired minister having served in the radio ministry for twenty eight years and also retired from Platt Saco Lowell. He was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church and a veteran of the US Army, having served during WWII in the Phillipines.

Surviving are two sons, Larry Blackston (Martha) of Anderson and David Blackston (Pauline) of Pickens; three daughters, Elaine Edwards (George), Debbie Lyda (Gerald) both of Pickens, and Neomia Walker (Raymond) of Easley; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Rev. Blackston was predeceased by four brothers, Colie, Luther, Lesley and Roy Blackston; and one sister, Lizzie Corn. Rev. Blackston was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Brian Walker, Randy, Russell and Chad Blackston, Jeff Lyda, Scott Stancell, Preston Hudgens and Rob Marling.

Honorary escort will be the employees of Brian Center, Interim Health Care of Easley, Ray and Martha Holcombe and Calvin and Gerri Chappell.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family is at the home of Neomia and Raymond Walker, 235 Turpin drive, Easley, SC 29640.
