Rev. Lester Collins, 88, of 162 McGaha Road, husband of the late Mary Ruth Stancell Collins, went home to be with the Lord Friday, August 26, 2011 at his home.

Born in Pickens County, the son of the late Sam and Ophelia Gilstrap Collins, Rev. Collins was ordained to preach on September 27, 1953 and pastored many churches in Pickens, Oconee and Greenville Counties, and continued to preach and serve the Lord until he was called home. Rev. Collins was a current member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, Aron Collins (Diane) of Easley; a daughter, Nancy Hunter (Ronald) of Easley; six grandsons, Richard Collins, Greg Collins, B.J. Collins, Ron S. Hunter, Russ Hunter and Ryan Hunter; thirteen great-grandchildren and three great-great- grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Rev. Collins was predeceased by a brother, Darris Collins; two sisters, Agnes Chappell and Alma Owens; a daughter-in-law, Joan Collins; and a great-granddaughter, Elle Hunter.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 28, 2011 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Escort of Honor will be the members of Bethel Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

The family is at the home of his son, Aron Collins, 194 McGaha Road, Easley, SC 29640.

The family would like to express their special appreciation to the Doyle Davis family for all their many acts of kindness shown to daddy, and to a good friend, Alvin Sutherland, and to Concord Baptist Church.
