It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Lester Floyd James, who left this world peacefully and surrounded by his loving family.
Lester Floyd James, 75, of Liberty, South Carolina, husband of Yong Sik James, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026.
Born on December 27, 1950, in York County, South Carolina, he was the son of the late Diana Volanick James and Robert Eugene James. A strong, loving, and devoted man to God and his family.
Lester James proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army and retired after 22 years. He was also a proud Vietnam Veteran.
After his retirement from the United States Army, he retired for the 2nd time in his life as a Lieutenant with the South Carolina Department of Corrections, after serving 19 years.
Lester was a man who embraced every single day with open arms. He loved traveling the world and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His heart was as big as the life he lived. He took nothing for granted, worked hard to achieve all that he accomplished and was always thankful to his savior.
Lester was never a spectator; instead, he believed that life was a journey meant to be experienced, enjoyed, and shared. He lived a fulfilled life.
Lester truly knew the meaning of the word love and gave it unconditionally to his family, friends, and community.
He is survived by his loving wife, Yong Sik James, two daughters, Ellen James Martin and Diana James-Bennett and his son Jesse James, who will carry on his legacy of family unity and unconditional love. He will forever be loved and cherished by his three grandchildren, Anthony Vickous, Suge Bennett, and Crystal Bennett, eight great-grandchildren, Sierra Bennett, Sophia Bennett, Sage Bennett, Korbin Bennett, Josiah Merck, Dakota Merck, Ashton Merck, and Madison Vickous.
He also leaves behind his loving siblings: brothers Carl James and Dennis James, and sisters Betty Yearwood and Myrtle Guidone.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three sisters, Eva Catherine James, Lois Geneva James, and Helen Ross (Cookie), brother Robert “Buster” James, and his beloved grandson, Cody James Bennett.
They say there is a reason
They say time will heal;
Neither time or reason
Will change the way I feel.
Gone are the days we used to share,
But in my heart you are always there.
The gates of memories will never close;
I miss you more than Anybody knows…
Love and miss you everyday
Till we meet again Always & Forever
