Lester "Papa " Merck, 79, of 209 Oates Avenue, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at Baptist Hospital Easley.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late William and Nettie Merck, Mr. Merck was born in Liberty, S.C. Mr. Merck was formerly employed with the Milliken Corporation and former owner and operator of Merck's Landscaping. He was a member of East Pickens Baptist Church, member of the Hejaz Shrine and a US Army Veteran of the Korean War.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy Nalley Merck of the home; one son, Dean Merck (Stephanie) of Liberty, one daughter, Debbie Pelfrey (Joe) of Pickens; three brothers,Grady Merck and Fulton Merck,both of Liberty and Herman Merck of Easley; four grandchildren, Shelly Riddle of Pickens, January Merck, Chris Merck and Jon Merck, all of Easley and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Friday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home- Downtown. Burial will follow in Robinson Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be 6:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home.

The family is at the residence.
