Lillian G. Bryant

Lillian Pearl Gibson Bryant passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 8, 2010 in her room at the Clemson Area Retirement Center where she had been a resident for the last 8 years.
Mrs. Bryant was born, the 9th of 12 children, September 7, 1916 in Gastonia, NC, where she grew up and graduated from high school in 1933. She enrolled in Southern Wesleyan University to plan a career in teaching. While there she met Clyde Bryant, who was preparing for the ministry. They were married September 1, 1938.
In 1953 Mrs. Bryant enrolled in Furman University to complete her degree to qualify to teach in SC. She graduated with a Bachelors degree in 1956. She taught fifth grade in the Greenville County elementary schools for 22 years.
She and her husband, Dr. Clyde T. Bryant, served in the SC District of the Wesleyan Church from 1938 until their retirement in 1977. They continued to serve the District when called upon after their retirement. Dr. Bryant died September 17, 1997.
Mrs. Bryant is survived by her daughter, Janice Schantz and her husband, Paul, their three daughters and five grandchildren, and by her son, Ed Bryant and his wife, Lorraine, their daughter and son and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday at First Wesleyan Church, Central with burial to follow in Memory Gardens, Clemson.
Visitation on Saturday from 12:30 until 2:00PM prior to the service in the fellowship hall of the church.
