Lisa Hunter

February 15, 1967 — May 9, 2016

Lisa Marie Hunter, 49, of Seneca, SC, passed away on May 9, 2016 at Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, SC, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on February 15, 1967, in Three Rivers, Michigan, she was married to William Joseph (Joe) Hunter for 24 years. They lived in Richmond, VA for fifteen years before moving to Seneca, SC in 2007.

The daughter of Barbara Anne Cairns Thornburgh of Hastings, MI, and the late Glenn Ora Thornburgh, Lisa was a graduate of Hastings High School and attended Michigan State University.  She most recently worked at Clemson University in the Vickery Hall Academic Center. She was a homemaker and a devoted mother to her children, Joseph, who attends Coastal Carolina University, and Morgan, a Clemson University student.

Known for her smile and sweet sense of humor, Lisa was also a Second Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, which she earned at the Gentle East Martial Arts’ MMoMA program while living in Richmond.

Lisa will be remembered for her creative desserts, including orange and white tiger paw-shaped treats for tailgates, as well as her delicious brownies. Rowers eagerly anticipated their “Team Mother’s” Famous Banana Muffins at Regattas when her daughter Morgan was a member of the Clemson University Rowing Association. Lisa also frequently traveled with and served as a team parent for Morgan’s volleyball team from Club South, based in Spartanburg.

In addition to her mother, husband, and children, Lisa is survived by her brother, Robert Thornburgh, and his wife Angie; her sister Mary Guy--all of Hastings.

A celebration of Lisa Hunter’s life is planned for Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 1:00 at the Hunter home at 103 Oak Crest Circle, Seneca, SC.   A private burial service will be held Sunday, May 22, at the Woodland Cemetery on the Clemson campus.
