Dr. Lloyd H. Blanton, 71 of 105 Lancelot Drive and husband of Melba Sarvis Blanton, died Tuesday, August 24, 2010 in Clemson.
Born in Mullins, SC, he was a son of the late James P. and Elizabeth Reynolds Blanton. A graduate of the Clemson University's Class of 1960, Dr. Blanton was recently inducted by the Alumni Association as a Golden Tiger. In addition, he earned a Masters degree from Clemson and his PhD from Ohio State University. Dr. Blanton was a professor for 3 years at the University of Georgia and completed the remainder of his tenure as Full Professor and Department Head of Agriculture Education at Clemson University. Evident to all who knew him, was his love for students. He spent his career advising students and mentoring teachers. Dr. Blanton authored numerous publications and was a lifetime member of the American Association of Educators. In 2005, he was awarded the Honorary American Degree from the FFA. He was currently serving on the Advisory Board for Clemson University's Emeritus Collage and the South Carolina FFA Foundation Board.
Dr. Blanton was a retired member of the US Army Reserves. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Clemson, SC.
Surviving in addition to his wife are son, James H. Blanton and wife, Monica of Greenville; daughter, Cyndy Blanton of Easley; brothers, James Keith Blanton and wife Betty and Franklin C. Blanton and wife, Nancy all of Nichols, SC. He is also survived by grandsons Brian and wife Debra Nelson; Bradley and wife Coy Beth Nelson; Will Nelson; Great granddaughter Sarah Elise Nelson.
Memorial services will be held at 2 PM, Friday at First Baptist Church, Clemson with Dr. Rusty Brock officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Family Life Center.
