Allen Lloyd McGowen, 80, of LaBoone Road, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017 at his home.

Born in Pender County in Watha, NC, he was a son of the late Joseph and Charlotte Jones McGowen.

Mr. McGowen was retired as an Engineer with ARCO Materials in Greer. He was an Aviation Instructor and pilot having flown for several corporations. He had a passion for restoring antique gas engines and John Deere Tractors. He was a member of Mt. Airy Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon, who loved his church family dearly. Lloyd was also a US Air Force Veteran.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Beatrice Holden McGowen; daughters, Kathy Lynn McGowen Phillips (Joel) of Beaufort, SC and Julie Lee McGowen Hopfer of Raleigh, NC.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Hank and Edward McGowen

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Mt. Airy Baptist Church with burial to follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM in the church sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Airy Baptist Church, 210 Mt. Airy Church Road, Easley, SC 29642 or Interim Healthcare, 16 Hyland Road, Greenville, SC 29615.

The family will be at the home.
