Louis Mathews, Clemson

The death of Louis Parker Mathews, Jr. was November 28th. Mr. Mathews was 82 years old. He left his wife Ellen Jean, a daughter Mary Freeman and husband John, a daughter Linda Lawrence and husband Christopher and a son Louis "Pete" Mathews III and wife Bond. He had seven grandchildren.

Mr. Mathews was a graduate of Brooksville, KY high school and also of University of Kentucky. Louis spent a few years in Air Force in the 609th air force and a stretch of years in the Korean War. He was employed by T.L. James Construction Co. of Ruston, LA. He was Vice President and handled the Dredging division. He served as President of the Western Dredging and the International Dredging Association.

Lou was an avid golfer and served on the board of directors of Colonial County of Harahan, LA. and was a charter member of Beau Chene County Club of Mandeville, LA.
After retiring he and his wife Jean moved to Diamond Head, MS and pursued his amateur golf desires.

After Katrina, Mr. Mathews was moved to Clemson Downs Nursing Home and then on to Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Methodist Children's Home, 901 South Vienna St., Ruston, LA 71270 or Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Ave., New York, NY 10021.

The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.
