Easley, S.C.

Loyd "Slick" Nichols McGaha, 92, of 103 South 4th Street, husband of the late Clara Williams McGaha, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at his home.

Born in Pickens County, a son of the late David Wesley and Lyda Boggs McGaha, Mr. McGaha was retired from Easley Mill and a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church. Mr. McGaha had a love for the game of baseball where he coached the Easley Mill Sluggers and also played in the Textile League. For years Mr. McGaha was the leader of Boy Scout Troop 50 and in 2003 he received the Jean Laney Harris Folk Heritage Award. Mr. McGaha was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Air Force.

Surviving are three sons, Stan McGaha, Larry "Pete" McGaha and his wife, Phyllis, all of Easley, and Steve McGaha and his wife, Deene, of Pickens; a sister, Mildred Spake, of Powdersville; a granddaughter, Suzanne Moody of Easley; and three great-grandchildren, Allie, Arabella, and Eli; two nieces, Lucille McGaha Ware and Frances McGaha Motes; a nephew, Dee McGaha, all of Greenville, who were reared in the home.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. McGaha was predeceased by a brother, Ernest "Bub" McGaha.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2010 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home - Downtown with the Reverend Barry Cannon officiating. Burial will follow in West View Cemetery, Easley.

The body is at Robinson Funeral Home - Downtown where the family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Milton Judge for the love and care he gave to their dad.

Memorials may be made to the St. Andrew United Methodist Building Fund, 309 Pelzer Highway, Easley, S.C. 29642.
