James Loyd "Gut" Smith, 80, of 106 Daniel Drive, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at his home.

Born in Easley, he was a son of the late Martin J. and Della Simmons Smith. Mr. Smith was a veteran of the US Army, and was retired from Ryobi where he worked as a machinist. He formerly worked in textiles, and was a retired part-time postal worker. He was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church where he was involved with the United Methodist Mens Club, and a member of the Sweet Spirits and Lucille Searcy Sunday School Class.

Surviving are a daughter, Lisa Smith Chapman of Easley; a brother, Frank Smith of Easley; a sister, Evelyn Smith Duncan of Greenville; three grandchildren, Nikolas, Alex, and Jennifer Chapman; two nieces, Joyce White, Betty Ann Duncan; and a special friend, Julia Simmons.

Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Thursday at St. Andrew United Methodist Church with Reverends Mark Long and Julian Ford officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The body is at Robinson Funeral Home - Downtown where the family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7:00 until 9:00 PM and will be placed in the church at 2:00 PM on Thursday.

The Lucille Searcy Sunday School Class and the Monday Golfing Group will serve as honorary escorts.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrew United Methodist Church; 309 Pelzer Highway; Easley, SC 29642.

The family is at the home of his daughter; 543 Finley Road; Easley, SC 29640.
