Lucy Watson Rackley, age 86, passed away on March 1, 2024, following an extended illness. 

Born in Anderson County on November 14, 1937, Lucy was the daughter of the late Eugenia (Jinx) and James William (Bill) Watson; the wife of the late Palmer Rackley of Easley; and mother of the late Susan Rackley Bowen of Anderson. She is survived by Steven Bowen, son-in-law of Anderson and three grandchildren: Stephanie Allen (Rob) of Seneca, Jennifer Bowen (Jermaine Heriot) of Anderson, and Bill Bowen (Lindsey) of Anderson; five great-grandchildren: Zac and Olivia Allen, Sadie Heriot, Lucy Catherine Bowen and Drayton Findley. Lucy is also survived by three sisters: Emily Watson of Easley, Carol Hollis of Piedmont, and Jane Campbell of Greenville, SC. 

A Summa Cum Laude graduate of Easley High, Lucy was awarded the DAR Medal for exemplifying qualities of honor, service, courage, leadership, and patriotism in the class of 1955. Established in 1934, only one such medal is awarded in the senior class chosen by teachers and peers. A member of St. Andrew Methodist Church, Lucy was President of the Lucille Searcy Sunday School Class. She was also active with many church functions, youth activities, MYF, and a devout attendee. 

Lucy’s work career began in textiles where she held various positions at Alice Manufacturing and Glenwood Mills. She and her husband later purchased Sunshine Laundry and Cleaners in Clinton, SC where they worked together until retirement. 

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 7, 2024, in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, downtown Easley, at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 1:45 pm prior to services. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Pickens SC.
