Ludmilla Granovsky Savitsky

August 3, 1927 — July 1, 2007

Ludmila Alexander Savitsky (Lucy) died of natural causes on Sunday, July 1, 2007 at the Keever Hospice Center in Asheville NC. She taught Russian at Clemson University. She and her husband George resided in Clemson Gardens where they tended a 1-acre "sanctuary" until 2006. They were both participants in the Adult Religious Education program at the Clemson Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship. Lucy authored "A Violet: The Two Worlds," which charts her childhood in Japanese-occupied Manchuria, her experiences in China as it was falling to communism, and life in a UN refugee camp in the Philippines.

Lucy is survived by her husband George and her son Basil, both of Asheville, NC, her son Mark of Six Mile, and her granddaughters Ava, Lily, and Isabella. She is predeceased by her daughter Olga. In honoring the spirit of simplicity, the Savitsky's have elected to refrain from any memorial services. Cards and/or requests for Lucy's memoirs may be sent to Basil Savitsky, PO Box 1505, Asheville, NC, 28802.

Condolences may be expressed online at www.robinsonfuneralhomes.com or in person at Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, Central-Clemson Commons, which is assisting the family.
