Madge "Putt" Webb

Madge Putman Webb passed away October 28, 2014. Born November 5, 1920 in Wilson, Oklahoma, She was affectionately known as "Putt" to everyone that knew her.
Putt was married to Hugh W. Webb of Saluda, South Carolina, a retired Army officer and later a professor at Clemson University. Putt was a 1941 graduate of Oklahoma State University. She earned her private pilot's license in 1943 with hopes of becoming a member of the WASP organization to help in the war effort. She eventually volunteered for service in the Red Cross and served in England and Northern France as World War II ended. Putt met her future husband, Colonel Hugh W. Webb, while overseas and they married in April of 1946. Her husband served in the United States Army until 1968, living in locations all around the United States as well as Oslo, Norway. Putt settled in Clemson, South Carolina in 1972, where Hugh continued his career as a professor at Clemson University. She was involved in many philanthropic causes in the Clemson area, most notably as a leader of volunteers serving the Clemson Area Retirement Center. Putt lived out her last two years in Alpharetta, Georgia with her family.
She is survived by her daughter Alison Webb Loeffler, her sons Guy Robert Webb and John Scott Webb as well as seven grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 2 PM, Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Clemson United Methodist Church.
The family will greet friends following the service at the church.
