Mae Gentry

May 29, 1928 — May 31, 2016

Mae "Petty" GentryClemson, SC

Mae Murray Johnson "Petty" Gentry, 88, of Clemson, widow of Dr. W. D. Gentry, Sr., died Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born May 29, 1928, in Conway, SC, she was a daughter of the late Murray C. and Nina Lundy Johnson.  Petty was the receptionist for many years for her husband's dental practice in Clemson and was a member of Clemson Presbyterian Church.  A firm believer in giving back to others, Petty was a master volunteer: at her grandkids’ school when they were young or cleaning someone’s home when their spouse was in the hospital - she always thought of what a person needed most and gave that service.  As a people person, she had a true servants’ heart.  Family always came first.  She enjoyed the outdoors, especially working in her yard.  Challenges were what she longed to conquer whether skiing or obtaining her pilot’s license for the Civil Air Patrol.  Petty was a true child at heart.

Survivors include  her son, Dr. W. Douglas (Robin)Gentry of Seneca; daughters Patty (Bob) Lawrence of Portland, Oregon  and Ginny Buchanan of North Augusta, South Carolina; brother(s) Erroll and Bayliss; grandchildren Ben (Lisa)Gentry, Jeremy (Claire) Lawrence, Lindsay (Doug) Schuyley, Jon (Cordella) Gentry , Jessica (Austin) Turner, Abigail Gentry and Will Buchanan and great grandchildren Anna and Kimberly Gentry, Savannah and Gracie Schuyley, and Lyla and Colin Lawrence.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Gentry was predeceased  by sister Madeline Strickland, brothers  JB, Lawton, James Norton, Luke, Dick, Sam, Wallace, Gerald and Doug,; granddaughter Kimberly E. Gentry and grandson Timothy P. Gentry.
