Mae Alice Owen, 91, passed away peacefully Sunday, November 18, 2018. She was born April 28, 1927, in Yancey County, NC, the daughter of Claude Smith and Louticia (Gouge) Buchanan.
Mae started her family as a young girl. She devoted her life to caring for her children and her husband. She also enjoyed sewing, ceramics, and making pottery. Mae was very crafty. She loved her church and singing in the choir.
In addition to her parents, Mae was predeceased by her first husband, Brown Buchanan. She was blessed to have shared over 40 years with her beloved husband, William "Shine" Owen who also preceded her in death, as well as three of her four children, Phillip Buchanan, Theresa Buchanan, and Shirley (Buchanan) Robinson; one grandchild; one great grandchild; and a sister. She is survived by a daughter, Norma Collins, of Anderson; a sister, Ellen Silver of Candler, NC; five grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, November 23 at the Duckett-Robinson Funeral Home, 108 Cross Creek Road, Central.
The family will receive guests at 2:00 PM prior to the service.
Mae will be entombed in the mausoleum at Liberty Memorial Gardens.
