Dr. Malcolm E. Ellis, 89, left his physical home for his eternal home on January 12, 2019 while surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Greer, SC on October 15, 1929, he was the son of the late Edward S. Ellis and Gertrude Bridwell Ellis. He was married to the late Virgie McCoy, Means, KY and the late Lois Sheridan, Allendale, MI. He was a retired professor emeritus of Bible and Philosophy, Indiana Wesleyan University. He also taught at Houghton College, Taylor University, and Southern Wesleyan University.
Dr. Ellis was a professional student and professor having earned degrees from Indiana Wesleyan University, Butler University, Temple University, Ball State University, and Indiana University. He was an ordained minister in The Wesleyan Church and pastored in SC, NY, NJ, IN & KS. He served along with his first wife as missionaries in Sierra Leone, West Africa. Dr. Ellis was a devoted member of Trinity Wesleyan Church in Central, SC.
He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Deborah J Perkins (Russell) of Pickens, SC and daughter-in-law, Carol Ellis (late Dr. David M. Ellis) of Champaign, IL; four grandchildren: Dr. Graham C. Ellis, MD (Katherine) of San Diego, CA., Taylor G. Ellis of Los Angeles, CA., Tessa C. Ellis and Javan I. Perkins of Pickens, SC; a sister: Joyce Ward (Larry) of Spartanburg, SC and a brother: Jimmy R. Fortenberry (Wanda) of Greer, SC.; and several nieces and nephews.
Receiving of friends will be from 1:00 – 2:00pm with funeral service immediately following on Tuesday January 15, 2019 located at Trinity Wesleyan Church, 700 Issaqueena Trail, Central, SC 29630. Entombment to follow at Memory Gardens, Clemson.
